Sea cliffs that rise 601 metres from the Atlantic on the south-west coast of County Donegal. From the summit plateau the land falls away in one of the highest marine drops in Europe. The name means grey mountain in Irish. Pilgrims once climbed to a stone chapel near the top. The cliffs face the full force of westerly gales; in bad weather the upper path is unequivocally dangerous. The quartzite summit glows pink at sunset. Below, the water is deep enough to hide the base of the cliffs on misty days. No road reaches the top. A gate at Bunglas marks the start of the serious ground.
